A BREATH & A BITE

is my project to help spread the natural healing theories of Ayurveda, the Science of Life.

My Motto

Good Food = Good Mood!

Rachel (Raquel) Cunha

I started my studies of Ayurveda at a deeper level in 2021, after 25 years of professional experience in hospitality interior architecture & design in NYC. It’s an on-going study of the conversation between Nature, its natural healing systems and our wellbeing.

My first encounter with Ayurvedic Wisdom was in 2009, through Dr. Pratima Raichur for menopause consultations, and more intensely in 2016, with Chef Divya Alter, to heal recurring digestive issue through an Ayurvedic diet. After tasting Divya’s delivered meals for 3 months, I not only acquired a new taste for healing, comforting, wholesome food, but also started attending her cooking classes at Bhagavat Life Cooking School.

I joined the 2021 Ayurvedic Nutrition and Culinary Training Foundations Program (ANACT), and the 2023 ANACT - Professional Program, which trained me as an Ayurvedic Chef, Culinary Instructor, and recipe explorer.

Mindful cooking has become my meditation.

At ANACT’s program, one learns how to prepare fresh, well-balanced, flavorful plant-based and vegetarian meals, how food can be not only nutritious but also medicinal and restore our innate ability for healing and spiritual wellbeing. Following Nature’s cycles. Being a Nature admirer, it couldn’t have been a better alignment!

I recently started developing a cookbook project, an exploratory journey:

BAKES - Ayurvedic Baking. Mindful slow baking, plant-based, gluten-free, sourdough breads, muffins, crackers, cookies, savory baked dishes, and to accompany, sauces and spreads.

Simultaneously, I started my continuing education in Ayurveda at Ayurprana, with Dr, Vasant Lad and his team, at The Ayurvedic Institute.

Last but not least, I was born in Ilheus, Bahia, Northeast State in Brasil, raised and educated in Rio de Janeiro, lived in London, in Sao Paulo, and settled in NYC in 1988. Lived in Fairfield County, CT 2019-2024. Now in auspicious Sunnyside, Queens, at Bliss Street. Being a nomad, I’m already on to my next move, to Mexico, always curious, exploring and open to new experiences.
